ASR began its publications unit which was closely linked to its programmes and other activities. From training materials, research findings and translations, to fiction, poetry, academic and non-fiction titles, it produced over 72 publications. ASR also produced a further 100 posters, cards and calendars.
Encouraged by this success ASR opened an avenue for creative and academic writers to get their works published. At the same time ASR sought to work towards encouraging Pakistanis to write and to publish in Pakistan, in order to increase the body of knowledge within the country and to expose the works of Pakistani writers living outside of Pakistan.
In a country where propaganda infiltrated discourse and the judicial-military nexus politicized justice pushed its people against the wall, citizens were forced to seek justice out and beyond established institutions. ASR Publications gave truth and justice an unhindered space in literature. The act of writing, reading, enabling hence became an independent means for keeping voices, narratives and truth alive, in order to deliver justice.
